Transition from Faculty/Staff Account to Student Account
While APU students are entitled to their APU accounts for life, IT permanently locks employee accounts once they leave the University. If an employee who is or was previously a student leaves the University, they can retain their account.
Typically, our Engineering team will reach out to the personal email you have listed with the school with new details and a password reset email on the final day of employment.
What you will have access to:
- Home Portal (home.apu.edu): This should look like your student portal and you should be able to access your unofficial transcripts.
- Google Drive (drive.google.com): All files will be deleted, but can get transferred over if needed. Please transfer all personal or student files into a single folder. Please note that if you are an alumni and NOT a current student, there will be a 1GB storage limit on total storage across all Google products including Google Drive, Gmail, Google Docs, etc.). If you will no longer be an APU employee, but will still be a current student, the limit will not apply to you.
- Canvas (canvas.apu.edu) will remain the same, but will be unavailable for up to an hour after it syncs on an independent schedule.
- Gmail (mail.apu.edu): You will receive a new, student email address, and your old emails will not transfer over.
